Lands Lie Dreaming : Concept

Lands Lie Dreaming is a role-playing campaign set in a semi-fictional universe, where an alternative Earth (Overhill) co-exists with a faerie world (Underhill). While the two worlds used to be entwined in a single whole, they are now separate, joined only at certain points and at certain times. Most inhabitants of Overhill are unaware of the existence of Underhill, and indeed traffic of any sort between the two is rare.

There are some, however, who are able to cross Between the two worlds, and among them are changelings - Kithain (faeries) who were born Overhill in mortal bodies, only later waking up to their true nature. The player characters are all such changelings, a small band of children who live in a London suburb as urchins.

Changelings live predominantly Overhill, although occasional trips Underhill are the norm. It is easier for them to hide their Kithain nature from mortals than their mortal heritage from Kithain - both of which are usually necessary for the changeling not to be hunted down by those wishing to make use of their powers or to avoid provoking the deadening effect Overhill has on Glamour, the magic of Underhill.

Lands Lie Dreaming is, at its heart, a quest. Not, perhaps, an epic quest, but certainly a heroic one.

Reasons for changelings to live Overhill more than Underhill: easier to hide, since mortals can't so easily detect Underhill elements as Kithain can detect Overhill elements; of course there are problems with both, as there is always a struggle to maintain the dual heritage, which each world tries to reduce.
