HRT : Peoni : Calendar

The Church of Peoni has an ancient calendar for use in its cycle of seasons and festivals. Like most Kethiran calendars, it is based around the phases of the moon. Peonians divide the lunar month into seven four day weeks. The days of the week are named for the four Aerlathos: Belsirase, Tirrale, Maerme, and Yselde. Lesser Sapeleh always falls on Yselde. Greater Sapeleh begins on Tirrale and cycles completely through the four aspects of the Aerlathos, as well as the four seasons, during its celebration. The last two days of the lunar month are known as Yaeldyne and Yaelmerke, literally "moon of man" and "moon of woman" in an archaic dialect of Jarind. The first day of the month is often known as Ffresyaele, and the day of the full moon, the fifteenth of the month in Tuzyn Reckoning, is known as Llawnyaele.

The twelve moons periods of the year, referred to as months, are:

Autumn (Hydref)
Diolkgarwch (month of thanksgiving), Glaon (month of rain), Lladdon (month of slaughter)
Winter (Gaeaf)
Olfion (month of Olfar), Tywllon (month of darkness), Ion (month of ice)
Spring (Darthell)
Ffresyaelon (month of the young moon), Adferon (month of restoration), Tyfon (month of growth)
Summer (Haf)
Kolinon (month of the young sun), Golaon (month of light), Cynhaeon (month of harvest)

Note that the Peonian calendar begins in autumn, so Diolkgarwch is the equivalent of Azura.

The most important days of the Peonian year are the Restoration Festival on the fourth day of Peonu and the Harvest Home on the Fourth of Azura. The origins of these festivals are ancient. The Restoration Festival celebrates the renewal of life after the cold of winter, and the Harvest Home blesses the harvest. The Harvest Home is the conclusion of four days of prayer, meditation, and fasting, ending with a lavish feast at which newly harvested crops are eaten. In the years that preceeded the coming of the Aerlathos, the Harvest Home festivals tended to be riotous or violent debauchs. Now they are peaceful, if merry celebrations.

The calendar dates events from the arrival of the Aerlathos at Perna, beginning the reform of the Church and the Second Age. Events before this occured in the First Age. Each subsequent return of the Aerlathos will herald the beginning of a new age. Church doctrine maintains that the Aerlathos have yet to return for a second time.
