Glossary

Except where noted, or in the case of English words, the plural is the same as the singular.

Chantry
The place where a group of Shek-Pvar, not necessarily of the convocation, live and work, together with their grogs.
Convocation
The Shek-Pvar divide themselves into six convocations, based on Pvaric principles. The convocations are both philosophical and practical, so that an apprentice learns a particular type of magic as well as the ideas behind that magic. Every Shek-Pvar is brought up in a single convocation. The convocations are: Fyvria, Jmorvi, Lyahvi, Odivshe, Peleahn, and Savorya.
Fyvria
A convocation of the Shek-Pvar, whose Pvaric element is earth, but which is also concerned with all living creatures and the cycles of life.
Grog
Henchmen of a chantry, whether they be guards or servants. The name comes from their tendency to indulge in alcohol.
Jmorvi
A convocation of the Shek-Pvar, whose Pvaric element is metal. Shek-Pvar of this convocation use much of their magic in crafting magical artifacts.
Kelestia
The universe, particularly as a mystical pseudo-entity.
Lyahvi
A convocation of the Shek-Pvar, whose Pvaric element is air, but which is also concerned with light.
Lythia
The continent of which Hârn is a part, albeit a fairly isolated one.
Mavari
A junior apprentice of the Enlightened Brethren of the Order of the Shekir.
Odivshe
A convocation of the Shek-Pvar, whose Pvaric element is water, but which is also concerned with cold and inaction.
Peleahn
A convocation of the Shek-Pvar, whose Pvaric element is fire, but which is also concerned with heat and action.
Pvarism
A philosophical system based on the idea of the elemental nature of Kelestia. Those elements are typically regarded as: Earth, Air, Fire, Water, Metal and Aura. Pvarism is the philosophy of the Enlightened Brethren of the Order of the Shekir.
Satia-Mavari
A senior apprentice of the Enlightened Brethren of the Order of the Shekir. This rank is achieved after a Mavari has travelled out into the world alone for some months. This generally occurs in the last few years of the appenticeship.
Savorya
A convocation of the Shek-Pvar, whose Pvaric element is aura.
Shek-Pvar
Member of the Enlightened Brethren of the Order of the Shekir. Typically only refers to full members (ie, Shenava and Virana) rather than apprentices (Mavari and Satia-Mavari).
Shenava
A master of the Enlightened Brethren of the Order of the Shekir.
Tribunal
An officially recognised and regularly held council of the Enlightened Brethren of the Order of the Shekir, as well as the specific geographic area over which these council meetings hold sway. Each tribunal holds council every seven years, settling disputes between mages and chantries, and dealing with other pressing business.
Viran
A master of the Enlightened Brethren of the Order of the Shekir who has been deemed worthy of especial honour and status. Plural: Virana.
