Vision of Artefact Publishing
The following is Jamie's vision
for Artefact Publishing.
My vision of Artefact Publishing is the gathering of passionate
friends to create and publish works that interest, move or inspire
us. It is both a conversation and a productive activity, and as such
values production as highly as product, values the people who create
as highly as that which they create.
Each element of this vision is important:
- Friends are the important people in my life. When I wish to do
something with other people, I think first of my friends. I do not
believe there is value in treating any aspect of my life as wholly
separate from what is core to my life. Therefore, the people that I
work with should be those who come from, or become a part of, my
community. This is not an exclusionary principle, but a statement of
Artefact's grounding in something broader than the specific activity
of publishing.
- The essence of gathering is coming together, to purposely be
with others. This sharing of an arising experience relies on
communication (verbal or otherwise), whether it is done in person or
from afar.
- Artefact is the antithesis of work. It derives from the passion
of all those involved. It is engaged in for its own sake. It is
chosen willingly and knowingly, in its entirety.
- Implicit in the idea of creation is an intimate relationship
between creator and created, in which each influences the other. The
creator's mark is a fundamental part of a creation and it is to be
celebrated.
- Artefact is not specifically a book publisher or an electronic
publisher or a music publisher. It is those involved in Artefact who
determine the medium and nature of a work.
