"Squire" Ferek Milaka

Name and position

Ferek Milaka ("The Poacher"), retainer to Melana (Companion) Maryk Poladyn

Physical description

Ferek is of average height but rather broad. Little of this is fat. He is strong and tough. He has a grizzled appearance - huge mane of unkempt grey hair, with beard and straggling moustache. A scar runs across his left eye preventing him from opening it wide. However, there's nothing wrong with his eyesight.

When not dressed for combat he prefers loose clothing, usually including a capacious, worn cloak topped off with a fur hat. The fur hat gets worn whatever the weather. He has been known to wear it in battle, over an arming cap.

About his person he usually carries a number of knives, for purposes ranging from eating, through skinning game, to fighting and a whistle for playing simple tunes.

Personal history

Ferek is a family retainer, sent to Menekod as a companion to Maryk Poladyn. It was through Maryk that the use of Ferek's nickname became known and used by the Meken who associate with him.

Duties

Ferek apparently spends most of his time with or near his master Maryk.

Friends and associates

Though Ferek spends a lot of his time with his master, and consequently with the Melana, he is generally found with the Meken at other times. In particular he drinks with Baseka Horab of Sarien. After his victory over Melana Lorik of Tharen in a duel, Ferek has been well received by the Meken, for many of whom he is something of a champion; the defeat of a Melana by a Meken in a knightly contest has won him their delight and respect.

Personality

Ferek is a foul-mouthed but good-natured man, who enjoys the pleasures of life - carousing, wenching, and the like.

Recent history

Last year Ferek fought Melana Lorik of Tharen in a duel, fighting in place of his master Maryk. He won the fight, much to the surprise of the Melana, and to the delight of the Meken.
