A short, thin man, Maldain looks little like a real
soldier. Despite being relatively old for a soldier, perhaps thirty
years old, he has all the energy and enthusiasm of a youngster. He
smiles often, and his speech ranges from a lugubrious drawl to a
high-speed chatter when excited.
Personal history
A few years ago Maldain was promoted to Mekednir, when he formed
his unconventional Ûnir, the Followers of Ostruto.
Maldain picked up his nickname from his well-known habit of taking
on any task assigned to him with the words, "I think we can fix that
up." Now "the Doctor" is jokingly invoked whenever there's a problem
no one else wants to deal with.
Duties
Maldain's duties differ somewhat from those of a normal Mekednir, just as his Ûnir is
different from all others.
Friends and associates
Maldain hangs out with the other members of his Ûnir, to
some extent due to the ostracism of the other Meken, who look with
some suspicion on his unit and their activities.
Personality
Maldain is an energetic man, always full of enthusiasm and very
vocal when about his "work". Despite his casual manner with his
troops, he is dependable in a crisis, and that has earned him a good
deal of respect (if not friendship) from those who have served
alongside him.
Gossip
Maldain is associated, as with most Mekednir, with his Ûnir,
and the talk of the Meken usually focuses on how different that
Ûnir is from the others, with its different structure and
ambiguous, mostly non-combat, duties.
