Beneath the Golden Moon
Mekednir Omali of Burume
- Name and position
- Omali of Burume ("Sarge"), Mekednir of the Skirmishers of the Unshakeable Ash
- Physical description
- Omali is tall (5'9") and very thin, with a wiry strength. Her
dark face is usually smiling and when she's not training, she can be
found whittling some piece or another. She keeps her black hair
cropped short for comfort under a helmet and, when not in uniform,
dresses strictly for comfort - though, in all her time at Menekod, she
has never been known to fail an inspection. Omali has never been heard
to swear, though she does sometimes mutter in some outlandish
tongue.
- Personal history
- Omali, to the knowledge of most residents at Menekod, has been
here forever. In some sense she is her Ûnir,
having served in it for so long, both as Baseka of Bethaglion trio and later
Mekednir.
- Duties
- Omali's duties are those of every other Mekednir - the leadership
and training of her Ûnir. Also, due to her experience, she is
often the source of advice for younger Baseka and Mekednir.
- Friends and associates
- Obviously Omali is close to those in her Ûnir (the Skirmishers of the Unshakeable Ash); she
also associates with the other Mekednir, and other higher-ranked
officers. She has the favour, and presumably the friendship, of Tirman Jayal Dir.
- Personality
- There are two sides to Omali. Normally she is light-hearted and
cheerful, while maintaining her authority; in battle or other serious
situations she loses her humour completely.
- Recent history
- Last year Omali was visited for a short time by her brother. He
was overheard calling her "Kika", and the name was later used by Meken Havril Derneh in her presence. Omali took
some umbrage at this, and rather wiped the floor with the young
soldier.
- Gossip
- It is sometimes wondered just where Omali can go to from here;
being a commoner makes advancement to a higher rank out of the
question, and there is no higher position available, either at Menekod
or elsewhere, than the one she currently occupies.
