Beneath the Golden Moon

Banners of Honour

The Banners of Honour are an unofficial group within the Melana at Menekod. The name was first used several years ago, when Melana Lorik of Tharen became the informal leader of those wishing to put an end to the conflict with the Agrikans.

Even before this time, however, a number of the Melana held similar views; namely, that it was a better option to attack the Agrikans directly, by an assault on Hyen Keep, than to waste precious resources on inconclusive border skirmishing.

It should not be assumed that members of the Banners of Honour are acting, or wish to act, in an entirely un-Laranian manner; nor, indeed, that they all share the same position with regards to the matter of the current Schism in Laranian belief. Most of the Banners of Honour are simply young Melana who chafe against the restrictive nature of their Code; their numbers are greatly increased during the summer months, when their voice is more prominent.

In recent years, since Lorik formed the Banners of Honour, they have been involved in a number of incidents which push the boundaries of acceptable Melana behaviour. Harsh words have been spoken between Melana on both sides of the issue, though the matter has not gone further than the Reblena Mykkel Elcher.
