The Peonian Church
The Peonian Church forms the other half of the religious milieu in
Kanday; the third deity in the official Kandayan pantheon is Agrik,
who is not worshipped and is considered a demon rather than a true
god. The Peonian Church, though catering to many more people than the
Laranian Church and the Order of Hyvrik combined (and indeed, everyone
is, from birth, considered a Peonian; taking Laranian vows does not
negate this), is very much the least of the religious institutions in
terms of power, whether of a political, military, or economic
nature.
As the "ugly sister", the Church of Peoni depends on the generosity of
Laranians, whether individuals or members of the Church, Order of Hyvrik
or even the Order of the Checkered Shield. From
such a state of dependence, it is hard for members of the Peonian
Church to make any protest about the practices of those who support
them, should any such protest be desired.
