The spirit of the house that had awokened began its first day by talking to Lady Catherine as she got out of the shower. It didn't seem to be in a great hurry to say anything of great importance, though it did ask if Lady Catherine knew there was a Sluagh living in the basement, and mentioned that the basement wasn't actually part of the house as far as the spirit was concerned.
After establishing a few basic facts about the spirit, such as that it was called Shape back before the Shattering, Lady Catherine was more concerned with the suit of armour that she knocked over on exiting her room. Robert, having finished the forging, had left it there for Lady Catherine to find, no doubt expecting that Lady Catherine would be pleased with the gift. However, this was not at all the case, and led to curt orders on her part for Robert to clean up the mess and meet her in the Hearthroom later that day.
The Shape, by this time, had started talking to other occupants of the house, and ended up participating in a game of find and shoot between Terry and Robert - participating by tricking Robert into a trap so that Terry could shoot him. Jellybean caused her own mischief, seeing just what Shape (who came, by her, to be called George) would tolerate.
When the meeting between Robert and Lady Catherine took place, Lady Catherine called Sovereign to keep Robert still and quiet, while she chastised him for incivility and interference, and told hiim that his services were required only on request, and that unsolicited gifts were unwelcome. Robert was not to question the decisions of his superiors, as it was not his place to do so, and to remember that he was here only by her grace. Robert left soon after the meeting, not happy.
That evening Slim was summoned before Lady Ann, the Vampire prince of London, who was calling in an old debt. She required Slim to scare away some vampire hunters who had begun snooping around part of her territory. She was quite clear that these were ordinary mortals, and Slim agreed that this was a fair repayment. Edward, a vampire lackey, noted that this did not pay off Slim's debt to him, however.
Slim then went to the home of the vampire hunters, warning them of some approaching evil. While they questioned the Sluagh, the dawn light faded and a gathering darkness seeped through the walls from the outside. What happened next is unclear, but they made it underground, and the vampire hunters - who had turned out to be mages - had trapped Slim in a magical cage. One of their number was dead, a colourless corpse, a drop of the darkness having fallen on her hand. While the remaining two mages questioned Slim, one of them became hysterical at the approach of some creature out of his nightmares. This creature the other mage could not see, but it did not save him from being ripped in half by the monster, which next made short work of the other mage. It then went after Slim, at his encouragement, eating the magic cage. Slim and the creature then fought.
Slim then turned up, bloodied and not amused, at the British Museum to tell Lady Ann that his debt had been repaid - and that he would have no further dealings with her, unless he heard it spoken that the Sluagh, or a Sluagh, had worked for her, was working for her, was allied with her, or that there was any other association; in which case, he would come back and ensure they sucked no one's blood again. He also claimed that his debt to Edward was repaid, to which Edward objected, leaving off only when Lady Ann told him to let Slim go, as they could not stop him in any event.
When the time came for Sir Michael and his party to extract Marick from the Underbridge freehold, they found Stig waiting there. Neither Sir Michael and Madame Rain seemed pleased by this, and made it clear that he was to keep out their way - and they were this lenient only because Stig pointed out that he had been entrusted to find Boston, and here was the best place to start on that endeavour. After some searching, and a verbal confrontation between Madame Rain and Stig, which resulted in something of a stalemate, Madame Rain and Sir Michael fought with Marick, "killing" his chimerical self. After witnessing part of this battle, Stig returned to the library, where he found Slim perusing the volumes. Slim seemed unconcerned that he might be found there by the other Sidhe, and after a short conversation with Stig he wandered off to search the rest of the freehold for other interesting items. This later prompted Stig to place an enchantment on the freehold, with a warning that the place was only for those who did not destroy or pillage it.
