Nirumpam accompanied his father on a visit to ... to discuss selling the shop. While Mr Singh put them off, in order to get a better price, in the end he did sell his property.
Robert, distressed by Terry's trip to Slim's basement abode (having been informed via walkietalkie beforehand by Terry), rushed over to Waldren House, pushed past Jacoby and kicked in the locked door to the basement. He then interrogated Slim as to Terry's whereabouts, and on receiving the answer that Terry was in bed, Robert raced upstairs to check. There was Terry, sleeping normally. Seeming only somewhat mollified, Robert left.
Two days later and Robert again made a nocturnal visit to Waldren House, this time accompanied by Richard and a battered Martin. Richard immediately left for Belfast, for reasons unknown, leaving Robert and Martin alone in the house with Jacoby and Slim. Lady Catherine was attending a midnight Court, in part to discuss the matter of Marick.
Robert proved unhelpful in discussing the events leading up to Martin's 'rescue', and left once Jacoby had put Martin to bed.
Stig, having been contacted by Richard earlier, then arrived at Waldren House, to find the lights off and everyone seemingly in bed. Settling down to read by the light of the Balefire, he was engaged in conversation by Slim, who noted that Stig ought really inform Lady Catherine of his divided loyalties, seeing as he had mentors other than Richard. Stig seemed content to say little and let Slim talk.
Leaving Stig, Slim went upstairs to visit Martin in his sleep,
where, after a considerable time of sitting silently by his bedside,
he told the artist to follow him - which Martin did, as if
sleepwalking. He was led out into the depths of the garden, off the
path, where a strange statue sat. Slim told Martin to finish the
statue, handing him his tools, but Martin was unable to, though he
wished it. Slim was not pleased, and said that Martin would never
carve again, having left his masterpiece unfinished. Whereupon a
spirit-voice uttered the single sentence, Then it is mine.
On their return to the house, a branch broke in half and fell before Slim, who basically ignored it.
