Riddle of the Travellers
The traveller in the summer tunic asked the dew on the blossoms the way to the place of small dreams. The dew replied:
Before the set and after rise Each applicant must do but this Kneel at the gate and shield their eyes Queens are common in this midst
And the dew told the traveller also that there was a secret word that was to be respected.
The traveller in the winter cloak asked the frost on the gravestones the way to the place of small dreams. The frost replied:
Choose carefully 'twixt night and day Go to the end of the wild way Mark the threshold with their name Squires walk with their grandame
And the frost told the traveller also that there was a final word which was not without value.
All that the dew and frost had revealed was done.
The eyes of night and the eyes of day looked down and at the end of the wild run the travellers looked upon each other. Not a word was said.
The traveller in the summer tunic reached out his right hand. The traveller in the winter cloak reached out his left hand, and the secret final word was inscribed, and the door was opened.
Which traveller entered the place of small dreams?
